The Lounge

Walked into the middle of the lie to set my stand.  I heard all the deer leaving as soon as I was all set up.  Its amazing they didn't just plow out of there upon my entry. Perhaps they arrived as I was setting up, i was late to the stand today.  But my guess, is they were already there and exited once they put my sound and motion up the tree together.  Also they may be aware that in the dark, it is not a panic situation.

I wonder what they do here.  There are thickets to lie in, browse, cover, topography that drains to the lower farm and is an on ramp to the upper farm. Its a lounging area all in all. A little of this a little of that.  But getting ito the middle of it, while maybe optimal for shooting, is perhaps a bit too obvious for hunting.

Either way, perhaps the best way to hut this is on the peripherae especially in the morning.  Inside it may work for evening, but even then you likely need to pick a sector, and don't go to deep in. Subtelty is key here. Even in the pines on a seat coup be a nice sit spot where you wait for them to come out or crossing to enter the lounge.

Running Late

PM Sit.

Scented or see by unseen deer at dusk. It was along ridge above me. Nice south wind drove scent up valley.  Hoping deer would travel up too , but none came.  Time to move this stand.

AM sit. Scouting.

AM Sit. 27 degrees. hard frost.  Nothing moving.  West wind drives scent downhill to beds. Is this valley an AM orPM spot? Scouted the trail above, along the ridge and like it better as an ambush position.  Must intercept deer as they move to beds in AM and from beds to fields in PM. This spot is to visible and scentable. Moved cams to base of valley and along ridge.

AM/PM

Cold Am sit at 37 degrees.  Windy windy day, but quiet in the valley at Tree 2.
PM sit flushed doe and fawn on entry at 3 pm from east side of valley. Nub buck appeared but did not descend to range.  Beautiful calm evening.

AM Sit

Wet, warm, quiet. Stand 2. Passed on nub buck and his very small mother.
Cam shows large buck passed stand at 4:37 pm.
